Inspiring more residents to embrace lifelong learning

SkillsFuture Festival @ South West 2023 organised by the South West Community Development Council (CDC), in collaboration with SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and supported by Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) will run 6 and 7 August 2023. Themed All Things Digital, this year’s SkillsFuture Festival focuses on digitalisation in the green and care economies and provides a platform for participants to explore the potential of digitalisation in transforming the green and care sectors and inspire them to take action towards a learning, caring and green nation.

2        Host and Mayor of South West District, Ms Low Yen Ling, said, “Digitalisation has transformed the way we live and work. From the use of artificial intelligence to remote work, technology has altered the dynamics and future of work. Through this year’s festival theme, we hope to encourage residents to learn and discover for themselves the possibilities and potential that digitalisation brings to the green economy and care sector. Besides new job opportunities and courses to attend, they can embark on learning journeys where job seekers get to visit the workplaces of potential employers. By constantly learning, re-skilling and upskilling, we can keep abreast of emerging fields and equip ourselves with the skills to stay relevant in today’s fast-changing world.”

3        Rapid advancements in digitalisation and digital services have changed the way businesses operate in the green and care economy. Through interactive booths put up by 5 Institute of Higher Learning and Training Providers, participants will be able to gain first-hand experience at how digitalisation has shaped green technology and changed the way food are farmed. Technologies like drones and autonomous cleaning robot designed to clean solar panels will also be showcased at the booths, providing participants insights to the future of jobs in the green sector.  

4        In the care sector, digitalisation has enhanced access to services and changed the way care is administered. Participants can get a glimpse of how Virtual Reality has given seniors an immersive experience to travel, facilitating greater connections between seniors and youth volunteers from the social service sector.

5        The SkillsFuture Festival will feature curated talks by industry experts on how jobseekers can increase their employability through networking and digital media, as well as provide insights on digital sustainability and how it has become an integral part of our daily lives. Potential jobseekers can also speak to employers at the SkillsFuture Festival and sign up for career trials where they will be able to experience first-hand on the job requirements and the skills required for the job.
